Meet Play Improve

How It Works

Hi, Guest.

How do the rankings and points work?

The ranking system (ELO formula) has the following features:

  • Only the result counts towards your ranking points, not the score
  • If you beat a player, you take some of their points
  • If you beat a player much higher than you take lots of their points (max 32)

The table below can be used to predict your probability of beating an opponent, and how many points are exchanged:

How do I start?

You register and create a profile, that’s it

How do I select my initial level?

Try one of the options below:

  1. Look for players of a similar level who are already ranked, and select your initial points accordingly
  2. Ask a coach or someone already ranked to suggest your starting points
  3. Come to a NETPOINTS event where the event facilitator will suggest your level.
  4. If none of the above are possible, select which level seems most appropriate based on the level descriptions (beginner, intermediate, advanced)

Notes:

  • A player ranked 400 points higher than you should beat you 9/10 times
  • A player ranked 200 points higher than you should beat you 3/4 times

How do I contact other players?

We suggest using social media to get in touch and invite other players to play. For privacy reasons we are not displaying contact details on NETPOINTS.

What if my initial level is wrong?

Once you start playing matches your ranking will move very quickly to where you belong. If you made a mistake or your initial level is clearly out by more than 400 points, please contact us.

Who may upload results?

  • Only NETPOINTS super users
  • Super users are usually coaches, but anyone who would like to arrange events and upload scores may contact us and request super user access

What match formats count?

Sets: Normal tennis sets, either 1 set or best of 3

Games: Players may agree to play only x number of games, or first to x games.

Time: Points are played (tiebreaker serving pattern) for a fixed time for eg. 15 minutes. Once the time is up the winner is the player with the most points.

What matches count towards my NETPOINTS ranking?

  1. Any matches which are arranged by a NETPOINTS superuser (eg. Coach or Facilitator) who will then upload the results themselves.
  2. Any match between two NETPOINTS players where:

a. The match is part of a competitive tournament/league/championship, or

b. Both players agree beforehand on the format, and that the score will be submitted

The result must be emailed by the winner to netpointsrankings@gmail.com within one month of the match for it to count.
